Creating a Fund

Establish your own Fund

It’s easy to establish your own charitable fund, within the Hornby Island Fund, and under the umbrella of the Comox Valley  Community Foundation. We can work closely with  you, your family, and your financial advisor if you choose, to complete  the following steps:

  1. Determine the amount of your gift (Min. $1,000 with a commitment to  build it to at least $10,000 within 10 years or through your will)
  2. Choose what assets to contribute (Cash, securities, life insurance, etc.)
  3. Name your fund
  4. Consider which charities and causes to support

Bruce Fairbairn Memorial Bursary

Created in the memory of rock music producer extraordinaire and lover of  Hornby, Bruce Fairbairn, the award is given annually to a Hornby  student of any age pursuing a post-secondary education in the music or  arts related fields. Over the past 15 years, the award has benefited a  legion of Islanders, some who have gone on to enjoy successful music  careers. Begun with a Stinkbug dance and great support from many Hornby  businesses and individuals, a fund was created that was matched dollar for dollar from the Fairbairn family.

This bursary is managed through the Hornby Island Education Society.

Arne Olsen Festival Fund

This is a memorial Fund that sits within the Hornby Island Community Fund and was jointly created by the Hornby Island Community Fund and the  Hornby Island Festival Society in honor of Arne Olsen.  Arne was a much loved member of the community, served on the Advisory Board for the Community Fund and was a generous patron of the Festival. The annual interest from the Arne Olsen Fund is used to support programs offered through the Hornby Island  Festival Society.
